As per Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, the provincial government has initiated the distribution of 200,000 Solar Home Systems (SHS) to low-income households on Wednesday. In addition, PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto has instructed him to obtain an extra 300,000 solar units for further allocation.

In recapping the Sindh government’s efforts towards renewable energy and the Thar coal project, the chief minister highlighted the challenges encountered. He mentioned limitations imposed on wind and solar energy sources by the PPP when they initiated a solar energy project, hindering sustainable solutions. As a response to address the province’s energy needs, the Sindh government made the decision to construct imported coal power plants.

Government to Provide Free Solar Panels for BISP Beneficiaries

Per the statements of Provincial Minister of Energy Nasir Shah, SHS is being evenly distributed across all 30 districts in Sindh. This is made possible through partnering with well-respected NGOs like HANDS, SRSO, and SAFCO to ensure successful delivery to the last mile. To prioritize those who are most in need, recipients were carefully selected from the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) database, specifically targeting households with a PMT score ranging from 21 to 50.

The chief minister commended Syed Nasir Hussain Shah and his team for their determination to position Sindh as a leader in the global shift towards clean energy, with the aid of the World Bank and other development partners.
